The Malay Phenomenon

Do you know the recent Singapore Idol contest has brought 1 good thing about the malays?

The common social stigmas that have always linked the malay race are, they are lazy, stoopid, laid back, nuisance, problem-makers, has no self-pride, nothing better to do except breeding and making babies.

The above, are untrue.

When Singapore produced '3 Malay Idols' consecutively in the last 3 seasons, I soon began to realise other races are making remarks and begin to feel uncomfortable, fear and inferior about what can this small group of malay community can create.

This is not about Sezairi nor Sylvia. Its about a 'certain' ethnic group bashing the malays for being racists when it comes to voting.

Unlike the other first two idol winners, I felt sorry when Sezairi won the crown with much critisicm than Taufik or Hady.

There was no short of musical talent in him, but he was much hated and virtually abused, simply because he's a malay!!

When Tabby was ousted from clinching a place in the final, public started to rally remarks about racism and defaming the 14% malay population in singapore, had 'apparently' voted for that malay boy.

And why so much fuss malays being KINGS of Idols?

Just read those hatred messages, wall posts, on the fanpages, the media, the blogs. The malays were being accused for supporting their own skin colour and not about talents. Being a malay myself, I felt that statement was outrages.

Well, like the chinese and other races, there are as many malays whom are also fan and loyal supporters of Sylvia (including me).

Infact, the malays have never instill such hatred remarks whichever ethnic race or gender that reaches the final.

The malays are always supporting for the best talents, and never because of their own creed nor the colours of their skins.

Jaclyn Victor & Daniel Lee Chieh Hun, are the champions for 1st & 2nd Malaysian Idols seasons respectively, in a country largely dominated by malays. But both are not malays. But the malays voted for them because of their talents. So, malays are not racist afterall!

But why must racial slur be the reason this time round?

Reading thru the comments posted on twitters, facebook pages and forums, I concluded that the non-malays in Singapore have striked a common bond among themselves. They finally proclaim the malays, have shown their potential to outwit & outlast other races by staying united.

Malays, in general, is a community that embrace togetherness, tolerance, teamwork and close bonding. Unlike others, malays STILL practise social respect among our eldests and still know what common courtesy is.

These seeds have been planted within our social & cultural roots from generations to generations. Now they have to envy us for that.

I'm disappointed that Sylvia has not won. But Sezairi has brough the malays to another level that demand respect and dignity from the community.

MALAYS ARE UNITED. =)

ps: I purposely did not write this post in malay, because i want others to read and understand their own shortcomings.

My congratulations to
SEZAIRI SEZALI
for emerging the WINNER!

Singapore Idol Pick Up Lines:

Florence : Why should Singapore vote you as the winner ?

Sylvia : I feel like a winner, I've been thru a lot and I feel like a winner already..

Sezairi : People love more than they hate.. look at this (pointing to the audience).. its not just about me but the whole Singapore

This could probably caused the last minute vote swing...sometimes what you say, can be catastrophic. =(

ps: Honestly, Sezairie has a better connection with the audiences that nite... =)

I VOTE FOR SYLVIA...!!!

Eh saper korang suppport for Singapore Idola ah?

Ehhehe...aku akan support si minah pinoy nie! Yes! I'm supporting Sylvia Ratonel!

Semalam aku masok fanpage dia. Wahhh...ader orang buat personal attacks kat dia ahh. Mcm2 rahsia dia bilang. It can be quite damaging for her future career path lah...tsk...tsk...

But, as an artist, this is just the beginning. Not everyone loves you, not everyone is your fan.

Why I think Sylvia should win?

1. Female viewers will vote for Sylvia. If she wins, she will be the FIRST EVER FEMALE Singapore Idol in history.

2. Majority of the guys (like me) will vote for Sylvia. It is natural for boys to be attracted to a pretty girl and will do anything for her.

3. The non-malays will vote for Sylvia. They don't need another malay idol. 2 is enough and 3 is too many.

4. Besides the chinese & the indians communities, the huge pinoy community here will definitely add up to the statistic showing their supports for Sylvia.

5. In Singapore, malay idols have lower commercial values. Another malay idol will result a drop in revenue takings for Mediacorp. Hence, most mediacorp employee will vote for Sylvia, if they want a better bonus next year.

6. The other contestant is a male Singaporean. He will be enlisted for NS soon. There, he will serve at least 2 years full-time. It doesn't make any economic sense for him to win this title.

7. Forget about 'Makcik Power'. Most of the makciks now either tgh shopping kat Jalan Masjid India or baru abes jemputan kahwin bawah blok. So tak ramai makcik-makcik able to watch and vote for the malay contestant.

8. Many malay viewers also not keen to vote for another malay idol. Look what happened to Taufik & Hady? Kesian kan Record Company dia orang rugi pasal takde orang beli album dia orang...

9. The male contestant looks bright and has a good future. He should complete his Diploma and maybe get a Degree after that. Find a good job and build a stable career. I'm sure he won't regret for not winning this contest.

10. Sylvia should win Singapore Idol because...I want her to win! =D

Walopon dia bukan melayu, tapi dia bangga nyanyi lagu melayu. Tapi ader orang melayu, tak suka nyanyi lagu melayu. Dia kater malu ahh... =(
